🤔 Why Do I Need a PIN?
Your PIN is the fast-lane to your computer, and it is a key part of keeping your work secure!
It's Faster and More Convenient The PIN is often the first step in using advanced features like Face or Fingerprint recognition. It lets you get into your computer with just a few quick taps, without having to type your long, complex network password every time.
It's More Secure Than Your Password While it may seem shorter, your PIN is actually better for logging into your specific device than your main network password.
No Travel: Your PIN never leaves your device. It stays locked inside a special security chip on your computer. If someone steals it, they can't use it on any other computer or website.
Tamper-Proof: If a thief tries to guess your PIN too many times, the computer's security chip will lock itself down. This stops automated guessing (called "brute-forcing") in its tracks.
Local Access Only: Your main network password can unlock your account from anywhere. Your PIN only unlocks this specific device.
⚙️ How to Set Up Your PIN (Important: First Login Only!)
This process happens only once the first time you log into your new, cloud-provisioned device.
Log In: Use your full network password the very first time you sign in.
The Prompt: Immediately after, you will see a screen prompting you to set up your Windows Hello PIN.
Create Your PIN: Enter your chosen PIN in the box.
Confirm Your PIN: Enter it a second time to confirm.
You're All Set! Your device is now secured, and you can use this fast, secure PIN for all future logins.
Your PIN Best Practices (6-Digit Minimum)
To maximize your device's security while keeping things convenient, your PIN must follow the following guidelines:
Minimum Length: Your PIN must be at least 6 characters long.
Complexity: You are encouraged to use a mix of Numbers, Letters, and Symbols.
Stay Unique: This PIN should be unique to your work device. Do not use your ATM PIN, home access code, or any other personal credential.
